Oral Trush and Homeopathic Remedies

Approximately half of the normal flora in healthy mouths is made up of candida, but when an excessive amount of yeast cells invade mucosa this can lead to infection – known as candidiasis.

Candidiasis, commonly called yeast infection or thrush, is a fungal infection (mycosis) of any of the Candida species, of which Candida albicans is the most common.[1][2]

Even in people with a good immune system, Candidiasis or trush can become a localised infection in different parts of our bodies, namely: oral cavity(trush), pharynx, esophagus, navel, bowels, urinary bladder and vagina.

Thrush in babies is often caused by an overgrowth of Candida yeast. It can manifest as white or creamy coloured patches on the tongue and the inside of the baby’s mouth, which may also be swollen.

Homeopathic remedies are known to be effective for this condition, some common examples being:

Borax is the most commonly prescribed medication for thrush, characterised by raw sores on the mouth and tongue, fear of moving downward and pain when consuming food.

Mercurius solubilis: The baby’s breath is puttingrid and drooling is excessive. Swollen, spongy gums are tender and bleed easily. The tongue is swollen and flaccid.

Sulphur: If Mercurius appears to be the indicated remedy but doesn’t help, Sulphur should be tried. The gums will not be as spongy and the tongue won’t be as flabby as in an individual requiring Mercurius.

Chamomilla is a profoundly agitated infant who appears to be endlessly disgruntled. Diarrhoea is also a symptom.

Antimonium Crudum should be used when the child has a tongue coated in a thick, milky white substance.

Kali Muriaticum can be used if no other symptoms will lead you to another remedy. The tongue may have patches of grey or white at its base.

The indicated homeopathic remedy should be taken at either a 12C or 30C potency every 3 hours, for 4-6 doses maximum. When the symptoms begin to improve, increase the time between doses.

If there is no improvement after several doses of the given remedy, a different one should be tried. This article explains in details how to dose

Parents of babies susceptible to thrush should see a professional classical homeopath so that the root-cause, the inherent presdispostion of the tendency to develop this infection is treated at a deeper level.

The professional homeopath will be treating the root cause of the problem, addressing the genetic tendency to it with homeopathy.

The homoeopath will look at building resilience from inherited susceptibilities as the treatment progress and will be addressing layer by layer of predispositions.

Reminder that if you are worried about the severity of the health issue, you must seek medical advice from your GP/medical provider.
